Trip to SW VA in late Oct. suggestions welcomed

I'll be in southwest Virginia in late October and look for some trail/backcountry spots suggestions. Campgrounds work too, as I'll be with a novice. Probably going to try to do the Jefferson NF.

Take a look at Grayson Highlands State Park. It's very pretty with lots of views from on top of balds with semi-wild ponies wondering around.
