To Do in 2026

Now just wanted to update everyone on my plans for this next year. When I first posted was unsure of things and so many thoughts were swirling around in my head. Still here am in Ephraim, Utah with transcribing my old journals thru this winter till spring. It is going wonderfully and presently on 1986 when I went to the Thorofare several times and all over the North Absarokas. In going thru the old journals, how many things does one forget thru time.

First thing is my ankle is wonderfully wonderfully much much much better. This winter have been stretching my ankle and ankle exercises, and it is going back to normal, Thanks to the Creator! Won't get into details but it is looking like now that can get back to the Thorofare like in the old days gone by. Yea!!!

So now thinking, probably in the spring and early summer to get back into the Thorofare - the Absarokas and the whole area with just living back in there maybe all spring, summer, and fall like in days gone by. And now probably Not to Alaska or some big bicycle trip, etc for reasons. Could go to the Magruder Corridor area with some friends in July by chance. But it looks like just back to the Wonderful Wyoming Thorofare Wilds and Just Live and Enjoy Life, back with the Grizzlies again it seems. It Seems for now.

Also the most connected I have ever felt in this life was back in those deep deèp wilds after days and days of being in those wilds by my lonesome. After a period of time could feel the connection to Everything with Life all around and the Spirit that flows thru all things.

Best to Everyone and Enjoy Life!

Sounds like a most excellent plan! I hope it all turns out exactly as you hope!

  • Avoid repetitive stress injuries :)
  • Spring "desert alpine" climbing trip (hopefully with better weather this year)
  • @Kullaberg63-inspired trip
  • Bikepacking trip, possibly this one in ID
  • DIY Sierra high route through old favorite and to-visit spots
  • BDR-inspired moto trip around south central +/- SE UT
I resemble that first comment. :roflmao:
I like the idea of a DIY high route, the Sierra's are really awesome. I love the mountains everywhere I've been but the Sierra's really pull at me.

2026 will be my first full year being retired and at 51yo the body is feeling pretty good. Feels like I should have a bunch of big trips planned but as of now only Bluff and TMB are locked in for sure.

January- Shovel snow and ski
February- Basing out of Bluff/car camping in tent for ~1-2 weeks to hike Comb Ridge, Cedar Mesa, Needles (never been!).
March- Fish Cr/Owl Cr Loop (or maybe October/November)?
April- Catch my first Steelhead on a fly-rod here in AK
May- More Steelhead and Dolly Varden fishing on the fly-rod
June- Catch my first King Salmon on the fly-rod. Lots of big ridge and mountain hikes.
July- 11 day Tour du Mont Blanc trek with my wife and 17yo daughter. France>Italy>Switzerland>France.
August- Typically sub-alpine hunting for Sitka Blacktail Deer
September- ? Yukon Territories for hiking and Fall tundra colors
October- Finish last half of Snowman Trek in Bhutan (did ~ first half this Spring). North Rim GC? Never been!
November- Cedar Mesa, Fish Cr/Owl Cr?
December- Family time in Maui?

I'm intersted in treks in Azores, Ethiopia, Scotland, and the Arctic Circle Trail but not sure if I'll pull these off this year.
Wow, we're half way through 2026 already! First half of the year's trips didn't go exactly as planned but everything turned out great. Second half of the year is pretty much planned now.

February- Based out of Bluff and explored Comb Ridge and Cedar Mesa.
March- 8 day backpack trip on Navajo Nation- Mystery Canyon/Rainbow Bridge
April- Caught my first Steelheads!
June- Katmai National Park- camping and fly-fishing for Big Rainbow Trout with my kids
July- Leaving for the Tour du Mont Blanc trek this week!
Sep/Oct- North Coyote Buttes, Whitepocket, then an 8 day backpack trip on Navajo Nation- Forbidding Canyon/Rainbow Bridge
November- Bluff? Fish/Owl?
December- Rented a campervan out of Vegas, 4 nights in Death Valley and 3 nights in Joshua Tree
