I'm looking for backpacking partner(s), August 15-17 for a three day/two night trip from Mammoth Lakes to Thousand Island Lake in the Ansel Adams Wilderness (east of Yosemite). Here's the plan so far:
August 15: Shuttle to Agnew Meadows, then hike to Thousand Island Lake via PCT (8.3 miles)
August 16: All day at Thousand Island Lake
August 17: Hike from Thousand Island Lake to Devil's Postpile via JMT. (14.5 miles) Shuttle back to town.
Right now, I'm planning on using the Eastern Sierra Transit shuttle, BUT, if cars can be parked at both Agnew Meadows (which is still closed from the 2011 windstorm) and Devil's Postpile, then personal shuttle system could be set up. The two parking areas are only about 4½ miles apart.
Hike distances were based on Halfmile's KMZ data for the PCT and JMT alternate sections. Please add any helpful information here, even if critical or cautionary.
