Anyone been?

I just found out a bit of interesting information. I grew up in Heber city. One of my neighbors who was good friends with my dad was Jeff Probst. I am sure you Uinta people know the name. I remember a box of books in our basement that my dad was helping to sell, I didn't know it at the time, but those books were of course the know iconic Uinta book by Jeff and Brad Probst. It was just a little while ago I made the connection between the two.

Anyway it turns out that my dad was on quite a few of the trips that Jeff took while writing that book. A couple of days ago we were discussing the Uintas and he mentioned that he had gone to Thompson Lake with Jeff, and that yes it was an insane amount of boulder hopping and lots of spider. Now my curiosity is peeked and I almost feel obligated to make the trip, it's in my blood or something.

I haven't been to Thompson, but my dad has twice. He tried to take my brother with him on another trip, and my brother got a spider bite that left him feeling pretty sick, so they had to retreat. My dad made it sound like it is indeed pretty bad with the boulders and spiders, but he felt it was worth a day trip if you camp in Four Lakes Basin. He also said that if you head way out to the south after you get to the top of Cyclone Pass the boulders aren't as bad and then you head back to the north to get to the lake. Ever since they didn't make it, my brother has been dying to get over there. I think it's funny because Thompson divides people into groups of "I must go there" and "dude, don't go there." This thread has some discussion on Thompson.
