Post your Great Salt Lake photos here!

I went out there with Summit and Dan Ransom last night. We didn't really get any good light but on the upside, it was the first time since I hurt my ankle that I actually did something similar to hiking. My ankle held up really well despite the sloppy mud and sand. We spent most of the time watching Dan's new time lapse rig do its thing but I still snapped the shutter a few times. Nothing great but just goes to show that even a bad night at the lake is still pretty damn good.

Why rubber boots rule at the GSL.

What? No pics of Dan's rig?

I don't know how many hrs I spent trying to figure out a cheap one, but this is what I made. About $70 into it. However the other day I came across something else for a track and I might rebuild another one that will be heavy duty.

The wheels I got with a plastic file drawer we had in the house. The board is a Cutting Board I got at Target. The motor is to mount onto a Telescope to track stars, and will turn one time in 6 minutes at the fastest speed. Which pulls the camera about 4ft in 45 mins. I just extended my PVC track to 10 ft. Each 5ft piece cost about $2ea corners and extra were a couple $ each. Pretty cheap!

it is constantly moving. it's a celestron telescope mount. looks like a pretty clever build. does it work? i imagine there will be issues with minor speed variations and stretch with the line and friction on the wheels?

love to see some timelapses with it!

at that speed, the motion blur will probably be pleasing. the only reason SMS is preferable is so you get sharp still photos as well.

let's see the clip! be sweet if it works well. nice job.

What kind of rig do you have to mount your gopro on your backpack?

Sorry this got side tracked Nick, maybe we need a photo gear section :)

Simple setup for the backpack, with a clamp mount I bought from eyeofmine.com. However if you go to Lowes you can buy a bag of these clamps and make your own for so much less. I have my tripod strapped on my pack and then just clamped the camera on the tripod. The nice thing is I can clamp that to anything. I have used a shovel as a tripod for icefishing, my steering wheel, Kayak Oars, and others. It is handy. However since I can just put the camera on the pate and snap it into the top of the tripod too.

it works for many things.
