I am curious to know how many BCPer's on here are 6'0" or higher and what kind of tent they use. I am getting ready to start tent shopping again here soon and I am having a hard time finding one that fits since I am 6'4". I have used Alps Mountaineering tents for the last little while but i am hoping to upgrade to something slightly lighter. I tried a sierra designs tent a while back and it was too short. I am hoping to find a good two person freestanding tent because some of my camping spots are on rock. I have looked at REI's half dome plus but I am wondering if there is anything else that is lighter. Any thoughts? Thanks for your help!

Being serious here, you might find that a tarp fits your needs well. You can cut it and pitch as long as you want, with all the interior room you could possibly want. And it certainly fits the lightweight criterion well. The free-standing bit is a challenge, but even in the Utah slickrock desert, there's never a shortage of places to camp.

What kinds of climate do you typically camp in? That might determine, in large part, what kind of shelter you select. If the rock you're gonna be camping on is granite in New England, you'll want something to protect from the horrendous black flies. If you're on the sandstone of the Colorado Plateau, a tarp is perfectly adequate.

I spend most of my time in southern Utah.

I have looked at their Copper Spur UL 2 tent. Do you not have a problem with your head a feet touching both ends of the tent?

I have the Copper Spur UL1 and UL3. If I try to touch both ends with my head and feet I can, but it's not an issue for me when using it normally.

I'm 6'4" and I'm also a fan of the Big Agnes tents, including the Copper Spur. Most everything else is too tight. I have a 3-man Marmot that I use as a car camp tent and I have to sleep diagonally in it.

I'm 6'5" and have similar problems with freestanding 2 person tents. I had a Mountain Hardwear Waypoint that was great for length but ended up falling apart on me. I'll have to check out Big Agnes tents.

Stephenson 2R.

Nobody, NOBODY! will be too tall for this very light and stormproof shelter. Mine is more than 200 nights old and the only issue has been a worn out zipper pull.

I am 6'4 and have used the tarptent notch for the past 4 years. Been a great tent. 27 oz., do have to use trek poles.
