I havent been backpacking in the last couple of months due to work but im dying to get another trip in. My cup of tea is usually uintas but most of it looks snowed in. The snow models show some south eastern slopes snow free but temps look chilly. I also have been looking boulder mt but it also looks cold and similar snow conditions. I have like 0 experience with southern utah desert stuff. Is there anywhere i can get the southern utah desert camping experience and wet a line for some backcountry fishing. I know this is alot to ask but im a fishing addict and love solitude. im considering manning up and facing the cold temps for some fall brooke trout. If anyone has suggestions let me know because id also love to try something new and stay warm

I almost made a trip down to Boulder mountains couple weeks ago but my knowledgable friend said it was really bad idea(just how cold it is up there). I am also in quest for some decent brookies. I drove up to uintas on Sunday for some lake fishing, and yes, most of the roadside lakes are frozen up already :(

Boulder Creek has lots of brookies in it but it's also a lot of walking in ankle-knee deep water (neck deep if you go all the way down). But with that said, the best fishing is well above the confluence with Deer Creek and it could be a good backpack. It will definitely be cold though, its higher up than a lot of better fall backpacking destinations down that way but the others don't have trout.

If I were really hell bent on it, I'd go for Boulder Mountain and just car camp. The solitude will probably make it feel like backpacking but with lots of warm, comfortable gear around. Don't forget to wear your orange though - I hear Boulder Mountain gets a few hunters.

Thanks for the suggestions I decided upon car camping the boulders. Which felt like backpacking because I didn't see anyone. Prob because the low was 20 but hey it was worth it I had never been before butI have a feeling I'll be back ;)

Get into some nice fish? Post a trip report? :)
