Hey all! We'll be running some significant software updates on BCP today or tomorrow. If any of you use the bookmarks feature, please be aware that existing bookmarks you've made will be lost in this process. There will be a bookmark feature in the new software version but old bookmarks won't carry over. There also may be some changes with light/dark theme selection as well as the featured trip slider on the home page, but that's still in the works. Please feel free to reach out if you see any problems that need to be addressed.

Here's a thread that allows me to share some thoughts as a relative newcomer.

I've been hiking in the USA more in recent years, especially in the Yellowstone-to-Glacier corridor. BCP has been a great resource for trip planning. I really appreciate trip reports and responses to my questions. Since I've been mostly a taker and not a giver, I thought I'd post a detailed trip report on my recent YNP Mirror Plateau trip.

I struggled with including photos, but I wrote up a trip report with photos and left it unposted while I asked a question about photo captioning. I put lots of effort into it. When I received an answer, I went back to finish it off but the report was gone! Others told me that it would not have been saved. Arggggghhh! That put me off and I didn't try again. Posted to my FB page instead.

So, IMHO here's what's needed:

(1) Clear methods that allows photos to be easily incorporated in-line while composing text without arcane procedures. Multiple photo formats are essential. Every common format should be accepted. It should be easy to resize photos and move them about in the text.

(2) A detailed and user friendly help section. This might have mitigated my issues with item (1).

Like any software, it's easy if you already know it. Not me, and without any help section, I'm not willing to learn by trial-and-error. I lost several hours of work and won't do that again.

Some will tell me I'm doing it wrong. Obviously. But I've been working with high performance computing since the 1980s and it was a failure for me.

Constructively,

Scott
