There are several of these kinds of trips every summer. Where I think Maybe I should post, but then I don't. They are the normal, non-epic, kinds of days, but they warm the heart and soul... at least my heart and soul.
This one was a couple of weeks ago, where on the weekends we have had these little cold fronts come through after sweltering weekdays. In fact, this trip saw windy temps in the 50s and 60s, which I would love to have back.
This trip is also proof that even in busy places you can find the right spot. The kids asked to go back to this one and since we had the 5 year old, they wanted to play more than hike, and only a few hours. It was a gimme.
Starting off from the too popular trailhead, but early enough we beat most of the crowd.
Threatening.
Windy.
Clouds flew past and kept us downright chilly.
Did not rain though.
Requisite Death march to our destination.
I kinda thought the cloud in the middle mirrored the limber pine.
Destination in sight.
The kids hid out and hung out for over an hour, then finally spent a couple of hours actually enjoying it.
They said it was cold and the sisters cuddled.
The music on the way up included "Into the Water", but alas swimming is fined here, and the air too cold to break the rules for more than my feet.
At this time everything was green. This was pre-flowering for sure.
A little bit of spot lighting on the aspens and wind running across the lake.
More fleeting light.
Time to return home to crowds, yardwork, and heat.
