This weekend the Rock the Park TV series debuts a new episode in which they explore Capitol Reef National Park. AND...

I'm excited as the episode evidently features some footage from my trip last year through Halls Creek Narrows (the flash flood). I don't expect it will be a very big segment, but I'm still anxious to see how they use the footage. I wasn't involved at all except for a producer contacting me re: the rights to my video. So... we will see.

I believe the show is on ABC and airs Saturday or Sunday depending on your area. I think it's likely to be on Hulu after the broadcast.

Cool Jammal!

Although, I hope CR stays as my own secret National Park.

I hope your secret stays quiet but 27 or so years ago an article about secret elk hunting locations appeared that listed 2 of my favorite places to hunt elk. The "locations" were very general, really. The next year and the year after the areas were overrun with vehicles from Minnesota and Texas.

Hopefully your favorite areas in CR are off the beaten track. I suspect they are.

This show usually doesn't stray too far from the main roads -- so I'd expect much of the focus to be around Hwy 24 and the Scenic Drive. The promo talks about the history of the park as well, so I bet there will be some talk about Native Americans, Cowboys and Pioneers. I half expect them to use my clip as a brief warning to always watch the weather while hiking ("Don't be like this guy who was taken by surprise by a flash flood in the park...")

Boooo!

The used four shots of mine, but I only got credit in the quick end-roll (kinda expected it that way.) They were supposed to credit AcrossUtah.com, but instead just used my name. Oh well. I had low expectations when the intro sequence stated the park is "full of canyons, domes and bridges"... and they show a shot of Sipapu Bridge 75+ miles away in Natural Bridges National Monument!

LAME.

I watched it, but missed the opening sequence. Saw the flash-flood shots. Your video with your original footage was way more dramatic! Makes me wonder what their process was for searching for 3rd party B-roll to use. I had to laugh at their definition of "Ultralight", which was just substituting a tent with a bivvy. Packing hydroflasks to carry water, big first aid kits, a big multi-tool, and everything else they put in their did not look like they really had the mindset of going "ultralight". I'm also confident they staged their little off-route "mishap" to add in some drama and drive home their point that it's important to have a good map, compass, and/or GPS device when roaming off trail like they were.

Beyond that, it wasn't that bad of a show. Makes me want to get up in that terrain between Capitol Gorge and Pleasant Creek and see how they may have crossed over. I'd also like to explore a route between the Gorge and Grand Wash for that matter.
