Last week on the 16th of February, I had wanted to hike Red Butte Ridge, but after about 40 minutes of hiking it started to snow heavily, and since I wasn't dressed for much snow, I had to put my tail between my legs and return to my vehicle.

Starting to snow pretty good at this point on the 16th. You can no longer see Red Butte above anymore.

Calling it a day.
So today, the 23rd, I headed off to finish what I hadn't completed the previous Sunday.

The west end of Red Butte. I didn't actually come off this side though, as the trail is extremely steep and muddy, and I didn't want
to fall.

Sunrise on Mount Olympus

Intersection of the trail that goes to the Living Room and Mount Wire with the Shoreline Trail

Red Butte above. That is where I'll be leaving the ridge after hiking down to the Living Room from the top

Intersection of the Living Room Trail with the Mount Wire Trail. I'll be heading left through the scrub oak

Pleasant hiking through the scrub. I had it all to myself.

Looking up towards the top of Red Butte. The actual top of the ridge is just out of view though.

I love looking through the trees on this hike.

At the saddle and looking along Red Butte to the west.

Beginning to head west across the ridge

A frozen Red Butte Reservoir below. The Dude Benchmark is way off in the distance.

Stansbury Island lit up in the distance. This picture didn't do the view justice I'm afraid.

A mountain mahogany, with Mount Wire beyond

No humans had been along the ridge since our last two storms. I was following a deer's
tracks across the ridge.

Some red rock where Red Butte gets its name

Looks like my trail blazing friend the deer was getting something to eat this winter.
I then stopped for a snack, and popped on my Sigma zoom lens to get some shots that I was interested in.

The smokestack to the west in Magna for the Rio Tinto Smelter

Another shot of Mount Olympus to the south

Lone Peak

Summit of Grandeur Peak to the south

Mount Raymond, just over Parleys Ridge in the foreground
Sigma lens with a 1.4X teleconverter

Hard to make out, but the summit of Jack's Mountain

The airplane beacon on Mount Wire

Another mountain mahogany on Red Butte with Salt Lake beyond
And now, back to my regularly scheduled lens.

Ridge shot

And a snack to get back down

Some of the red rock of Red Butte. The Dude Benchmark and Black Mountain Ridge are in the distance

Mount Wire. If you look closely, you can make out the old beacon on the summit

A look down into the west end of Red Butte Canyon

This is where I began to descend off the ridge

The west end of Parleys Ridge, with Perkins Peak at the center.

Looking back up, coming off the ridge. My left knee was screaming at me during this decent.

Heading down to the Living Room, with the west end of Red Butte below ( the section of the ridge that I didn't hike due to the steep,
muddy trail coming off of it on the west end.

A family was enjoying their lunches at the Living Room as I passed by

This is the view to the south from the Living Room. Not bad!

Looking up at the west side of Mount Wire

The nasty trail that I didn't want to take coming off the west side of the ridge

Back at the Subaru

A view of the north side of Red Butte as I was driving home through the University of Utah's campus.
The End.
