Planning my year

Where will you go in Yosemite? One of my favorite haunts is The Emigrant Wilderness just north of Yosemite.

I really have no idea as it's my first time going there for photography so I appreciate your suggestion (and any more you want to make). Unfortunately I'll be in the area for a meeting and will mostly have to shoot sunrise/sunsets, with one full day to explore so I want to make the most of it.

There are so many options for a day in Yosemite. Out of the valley there’s Happy Isles to Half Dome or points in between. From Tuolumne Meadows Lyle Canyon toward Donohue Pass is spectacular. Mirror Lake at sunrise is magic.
And here it is, only December.

I'll be there in February so Tioga Pass will (hopefully) be closed, but yeah I've done the Lyle Canyon hike in the summer and it's beautiful. Mirror Lake I'm not familiar with, will check it out-thanks!

February does change the options. Ski or snowshoe time.

Super jealous! I want to do Salt Creek so bad. If you've got any extra room on your permit and wouldn't mind some company I would be all over that.

pixie1339 , eventually I'm adding another Salt Creek trip to my list for 2013. I still need to see a few ruins I missed out.
If you're interested we could plan something for next year.
I would love to have company on my next trip into Salt Creek, especially when considering the fees for backcountry permits.
And having two vehicles is also really convenient because we could park one at each trail head.

At the moment I'm stomping with my feet and can't wait to start with a great new season with many trips. Somehow I would love to do an overnighter somewhere on New Years Eve into New Year. Not sure now where to go but it would be a great start for the next year. :)

I've been wanting to do Salt Creek for some time now, and Indian Creek. I would like to hit them in mid spring if the wife's up for letting me pull off a few extra trips this coming year!

The main reason why I liked Jasper better was that Jasper had a lot less people than Banff.

I've finally started planning the hikes for my trip, and Jasper is looking more appealing. And if anyone knows anything about me, it's that I need to be able to get away from the crowds to enjoy my backcountry trips!

Do you have any suggestions for Jasper that were nice but uncrowded? The guide book I'm reading only seems to describe trails one of two ways: "popular" and "not as pretty as other trails in the area." This seems to make it difficult to figure out how crowded the "popular", pretty trails are!

okay, a few trips are already planned and I can't wait.

Memorial Day weekend I'll backpacking Salt Creek Canyon again. I add a few extra days before that trip so I can hike Druid Arch and Chesler Park in the Needles.
7 days in Yellowstone end of July/beginning of August
Wheeler Peak in July and eventually a short overnight trip before or after in Great Basin
Labor Day weekend Havasupai

then a few short weekend trips

mid May Halls Creek Narrows, Willow Gulch the first weekend in May.

Still looking for some 2-5 day mountain backpacking trips in July and August and something for the first week in June
