This is great. I posted something similar about the gear taken on the fictional trip to King Solomon's Mine...

But while the rest of us can chuckle about taking along an iron mill to grind corn, none of us have ever taken a trip into the unknown and had to live off our supplies for nearly two years. If you haven't read Undaunted Courage, you should. We listened to it as an audio book on our car trip to Yellowstone and back many years ago. Amazing, amazing, amazing.

Ah yes, calomel, aka "Thunderclappers." Mercury chloride used to treat stomach issues o_O. And because mercury persists in the soil after it's pooped out, researchers were able to find Traveler's Rest, one of the Corps' camp sites.

Ahh yes..I carry th same exact load for 1 person, with one exception... To lighten th load, I substitute th frow…with a frown!

Thanks for the "Undaunted Courage" recommendation. I'm enjoying it so far. FYI the audiobook is available for free on the Hoopla app through most libraries.

That book is the gateway drug that got me into western US history, about 15-16 years ago. Still the genre I read most often!
