Orange Screw

I saw this on Kickstarter today and thought I'd share. Spending so much time camping in the sand and high winds in Glen Canyon has made me really appreciate a stout anchoring solution. Definitely not something for backpacking, but for those setting up base camp family tents and shade systems it looks pretty cool. I just backed it.

It appears I may be the only one stoked about some bomber car/boat camping stakes. Oh well. After I put in money on the kickstarter, they coincidentally contacted me via BCP's media connections and offered to send some stakes to test out. Got 'em today, going to put them to work in Glen Canyon holding down a Noah's Tarp next weekend. I still have to wait until November to get the pack I ordered though.

After getting my free test screws, I downgraded my Kickstarter pledge from ~$80 to ~$35. After using them for 6 days in Glen Canyon last week, I went back and maxed my pledge out to $150 (8 smalls, 8 larges). I love these things. Yes, they sent me two screws for free to try out, but this is all 100% my opinion. My new Noah's Tarp failed in several ways, but not one of them had to do with the orange stakes holding parts of it down. My other sand stakes pulled out, the Kelty line tensioners broke, but the orange screws are the definition of bomber and held like a champ. Obviously these things aren't intended for backpacking, but I could even see hauling some smalls depending on the terrain and conditions. I love them. 2 days left to get in on the Kickstarter.

You mentioned multiple times that they would not be good for backpacking. Because of their weight?? or is there something else I didn't see?

Actually, I think the smalls would be worth it in some backpacking situations. But yeah, the weight would be the number one thing. The small is 1.8 oz compared to something like the MSR Groundhog at .71 oz.
