I was up Waterfall Canyon in Ogden today and I saw something pretty strange. Wondering if anyone knows anything about it. There were two cliff lines with large groups scaling up them. They were all really close together and I don't think they were roped up, at least not like they should be for typical sport climbing. They have harnesses on and helmets, but even when I zoom way in on the pics - no ropes can be seen. The only thing I can think of is that it's some sort of via ferrata type route that has been established up there. Any ideas? Here are a few pics that are super cropped so forgive the poor quality.

Yes, there is a via ferrata above Ogden. I'd been interested in checking it out, but then work summoned me south where the winters are a bit more mild.

You can see one of the cables on your 3rd picture.

I'm going to have to check this out sometime. Looks like fun

It is a definite Via Ferrata. It was designed by a local climber for the property owner who planned to incorporate it into some kind of business possibly in connection with a summer resort area. It is exciting. It is definitely a 5th class route without using the aid devices. All via ferratas require some specialized equipment to climb safely especially for a non climber. The business model apparently didn't work and apparently the route has degenerated and is needing some repair. It has been some years since I have seen it. Apparently it is controversial now as to whether it is available to be climbed or not.
