I am a backpacker from the flat lands of North Dakota, but wander up into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota as well as the Superior Hiking Trail along Lake Superior. This last summer spent 15 days in Glacier National Park. Typically plan at least one extended weeklong backpacking trip each year with next year planning to spend time in the backcountry of Lake Clark National Park in Alaska.

Hopefully I make it up to Lake Clark NP someday... would love to visit Richard Proenneke's cabin and see some of that country he wrote about.

Yes, the Richard Proenneke cabin is on our list to visit. I have a daughter and son-in-law that are pilots and live in Anchorage. My daughter worked for the resort in Port Alsworth a couple of summers ago. This summer hope to make it to Katmai NP as well. Your trip to Wrangell-St Elias looks like an awesome trip. Heading to Nebraska this coming week and will do some hiking around Lincoln. if its nice.

Those are some excellent Alaska connections!

I live a couple hours North of Lincoln, but have family that lives there and I lived there during college. There's some decent hiking in the area. If you're coming down I-29 there's also some good hiking in the Loess Hills State Forest in Iowa.
