As far as knee testing is concerned, Mount Wire is a step up from what I've been doing, and so the family headed up this morning to see if I could make it or not. My knees were pretty sore after the descent.

Overview map of our hike - roughly a 2100 foot elevation gain to the top. We headed up George's Hollow and came back down the ridge

Just off the trailhead

Looking back across Research Park towards downtown SLC

Arrowleaf balsamroot is blooming now at the lower elevations in the foothills

My two hiking partners for the day

First sighting of vetch this year

Desert Alyssum

Long-leafed phlax

Mount Wire / Living Room Trail

This oak leaf has seen better days

Remnant of last years aster

Which way did he go? Katie posing with Mount Wire as a backdrop

A busy trail this morning with most people heading to the Living Room

A bush pea

Looking back down George's Hollow towards Research Park and beyond

The trail to Mount Wire after the junction with the trail that heads up to the Living Room

More Trail

Upper Red Butte Canyon and Lookout Mountain in the distance

Sheila makes it to the saddle

Stickseed

Salt lake City with Red Butte in the foreground

Looking over at the summit of Mount Van Cott which was our destination last week

The steep part of our hike today

The University of Utah Hospital and Huntsman Cancer Institute tucked in beyond Red Butte

Katie is making me look silly today. Damn youth!

Once again, my favorite mountain mahogany

The beacon!

A Utah violet

An old muley from last spring

View out the Mount Wire Ridge

What the Hell @regehr ! They have put a bench on top of Wire!

Sheila about at the summit

The Scat family on the summit

On the way up

Howdy from the top of the beacon

Here you go @Rockskipper .

Taking a picture of the picture-taker below

Coming down for me was no easy task. I had to remember to put my bad knee down
first for each step.

Beacon Hill bench mark

My snacks up top - fig newton and some pumpkin seeds.

View from the bench

Heading back down

Spring parsley

Some prickly pear

Some furry scat on our way down. That is a 77mm lens cap for scale. Anybody have a guess?

Katie still out ahead

Lots of snail shells on this hike

Sheila, making her way down the ridge

These balsamroots had insects on them

This rocky outcrop along the ridge is famous for rattlesnakes. We saw a small one, about as big around as my pointer finger, but it
slithered back into a hole in the rocks before I could get my camera off of my shoulder to take its picture. My first sighting of a
rattlesnake in March.

Some antelope bitter brush in bloom

And Utah service berry

Afternoon shot of Mount Wire and the route that we desecnded

Dandelion

Back at the Sube!
The End.
