Summer 2018 was one of the best summer's I have experienced in my 15 years living in Montana. Fantastic temps, good weather, and practically no smoke, a complete opposite of dreadfully hazy 2017. There were big plans of backpacking trips and bagging peaks, but life threw some curve balls. I was still however able to get in a few trips, and a few peaks. Camping at the beautiful gem lake, and bagging the tall point of the bitterroot mountains, Trapper Peak, at 10,157 ft. We dropped our packs at gem lake after a fairly easy hike, and took a well known climber's gully and scrambled up to the main trail to get to the top. Not 30 minutes after getting off the peak, a thunderstorm cell appeared out of nowhere, striking trapper a dozen times, before heading off for a pleasant evening. Enjoy.
