Need something new ... Something that don't scare away the scenery...

Most of my newfound music nowadays comes from NPR. They are currently streaming: Jim James (like it), Darkstar (kinda growing on me), Richard Thompson (don't like it), Thao & The Get Down (meh), Ballake Sissoko (very nice, puts me to sleep) and some jazz (a genre I have not yet grown to appreciate).

Also check out the many well produced videos posted on backcountrypost... they have introduced me to some outstanding music that goes very well with scenery.

I"d try out Local Natives (both their self-titled and new album this year), Nightbeds, Typhoon, you can never go wrong with Sigur Ros, or Jonsi, as well as Jonsi and Alex. Port St. Willow, Polica, James Blake, Andrew BIrd, Patrick Watson, Cold Specks, Sea Wolf, Dan Mangan, Devotchka, Nick Drake, Nils Frahm, Hammock, The Antlers, and Other Lives

I could give you more if you want but this is a good start.

I've become quite the fan of post rock to go with my outdoor adventures. No lyrics, just good music. A little Explosions in the Sky on the way to a trailhead usually sticks with me all day.

How could I forget Explosions in the Sky (one of my favorites to listen to and see live)? In other post rock music I recommend This Will Destroy You's-Young Mountain. Also Ef and Kyte are a few more favorites.

Modest Mouse. They have a vary hard sound and also a very mellow sound (mellow stuff has a lot of banjo in it). Nick introduced me to explosions in the sky and I really like them. Another great "chill" album is Pink Floyd's "Atom Heart Mother" album.

Will Oldham/Bonnie Prince Billy - is one of my favorite artists of all time - he's churned out a lot of stuff - try Superwolf or Lie down in the Light on for size. I would second nonameiwant on Local Natives -I really enjoy them. Another great new album just came out from a group of sisters known as The Staves. For actually churning out the miles - with earbuds in your ears, hip-hop can't be beat in my book. Lastly - if you decide you do want to scare away the scenery - a little Dan Deacon is a lot of fun.

If your into Will Oldham then I would suggest takin a look at Jason Molina/Songs: Ohia/Magnolia Electric Co. Jason Molina is the main artist and his band used to be called Songs:Ohia and is now Magnolia Electric Co. One of my favorite artists. Some of my other favs along the alt country line are Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt, Slobberbone, and the Drive By Truckers. Judging from your knowledge of Will Oldham, I suspect you have heard some of these.

And of course, when all else fails, you can't go wrong with Widespread Panic and the Yonder Mountain String Band.
