I am in awe of the Trip Reports the members here have posted! Such grand scenery, just stunning. On a somewhat more modest scale, the Shawnee Forest of southern Illinois offers some very interesting hikes, too. Today my wife, a good friend, her daughter and I hiked about six miles in an area known as Jackson Hollow. It is an extensive bluff line hike that was especially nice today with mid-50's and crisp sunlight.

I really like the colors on this rock face.

View from under a rock outcropping:

Going in a small cave:

Lots of scrambling. Good fun!

My wife exited a crevice opening and reached the end of that short trail! Had to turn back.

All in all a great afternoon in the Forest.
