Progression along the Salt Lake foothills brought us to Jack's Mountain this morning. Of course, there had to be some drama as when I arrived at the trailhead and opened up the hatch of the Subaru, I realized that I had left my daypack at home and had to turn around and go back and get it.
While this hike is a short one, it is steep, gaining roughly 1240 feet in 1.05 miles. I was looking forward to see how my knee would handle this at this point of my recovery.
On our way down, we took a different tail that I had never done before which let us cover some new terrain.

Busy at the trailhead this morning. It didn't help that I had to go retrieve my daypack form home.
The guy in the green shorts
ahead started out with us, but quickly left us in the dust. We notice that he was summiting multiple times and on our way back to
our car we stopped and talked to him as he was gearing up to summit for the fifth time. What a machine!

On the trail

We begin the ascent

Slowly as usual

My hiking compadres. Katie - "Why am I carrying your camera?"

The knee is barking at me.

Gained the ridge and now contouring around the first hill

Carrigan Canyon below and Parley's Ridge above

Sheila, rounding the first hill

The first false summit

Zoomed in on Mount Wire to the north where we were last Saturday. It looks like there are some folks up top.

Katie out in front as she approaches the first false summit

And the second false summit

Long-leafed phlax

Antelope bitter brush

The true summit above

False bastard toadflax

Some snow left over from the storm two days ago on a north slope of Parley's Ridge

Still working my way up

A swallowtail on some low cryptantha

Made it to the top

Head of Spring Canyon

BCP greetings from Jack's Mountain

Zoomed in on Mount Wire again and you can see the unoccupied bench near the top - to the left of the beacon

The Canon 6D Mark II was the camera of choice on this hike, along with the Canon PowerShot SX530 HS
Now some fun with the fisheye lens that I hauled to the top.

For you @Rockskipper

Back to a normal lens

On the actual summit of Jack's Mountain

More antelope bitter brush

Heading down a new route for us

Some arrowleaf balsamroot

Mountain dandelion

And some paintbrush

Paintbrush and the top of Jack's

Last year's desert assylum

Mating swallowtails?

Jack's Mountain

Scatman down! And to think that I thought I was done with this kind of thing, and so close to the end no less

The ladybug was laughing at me.

Arriving at the trailhead for Jack's Straight Trail

Since we took a different way down than planned, we had to work our way around the end of the ridge to the south of us in order
to get back to our car.

Shoreline Trail

The "H" rock

Mount Olympus back in view

Pencil Point, which we might do next weekend

Back at the Sube.

We went to grab a couple of pizzas from Papa Murphy's and this a shot of Jack's Mountain from their parking lot.

A combo with some added veggies ready to eat.

And a Big Bad Baptist Samurai Imperial Stout from Epic Brewery to wash it all down after a
wonderful hike.
The End.
