I know there have been threads on this before, but since I don't have the net and hate sitting in the library parking lot (and have to drive a long ways to get here), I don't really have the time to do a search. Could someone give me some good quick ideas of a good tripod, not real expensive, that would not be too heavy and yet would hold equipment weighing around 5 lbs total. I won't be backpacking with it, but may do day hikes.

Thanks in advance!

Here is one BCP thread with a couple of suggestions:

Rick said, potentially this one (he has an older version, works well)

or a Manfrotto :

Rick would like this expensive one- so the circle is now complete.... it's back to @Perry 's wish :)

I’m loving the Peak Designs travel tripod. The down sides... pricy, can’t see the spirit level once the camera is mounted, panos are problematic as the head does not rotate on a horizontal plane... have to turn by loosening the ball head and turning. The pano problem can be fixed by swapping out to the head of your choice.

There are lot's of great inexpensive lightweight tripods out there. I think you need to consider first what type of head you need, and how you want to attach your camera to it. I personally like the Manfrotto heads with the RRS mounting plates. The Manfrotto heads can be affordable, the RRS stuff not so much.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to go with the one on Amazon Titans suggested then save up for a good one (Manfrotto head, etc.). I'm kind of in a hurry to get out, winter really left me with a bad case of cabin fever.

I just got the K&F Titans mentioned and it's perfect for what i need. I may get a more heavy duty one later, but this at least keeps everything stable for now. Thanks!
