The BLM just told me their people on site have determined the oil is very old... probably from 1971. They believe last September's storm cycle caused enough flow through the wash to scour the channel and stir up the old oil.

Right now, they're not sure what steps if any they'll take to remove it. The concern is moving in equipment could prove more disruptive than allowing the oil to sit.

More reasons not to drill out there.
