I did not really participate in this project save some advice here and there. The designer/builder with his newly finished 9x9 mid:

With guy lines (copious quantities!!) it weighs 724 grams, not including stakes/pole. Netting skirt will be added later.

He got the fabric from Outdoor Wilderness Fabrics: owfinc.com.

It is what they call 1.1 oz silnylon 'seconds', meaning uneven coating, more creases, possible weave issues. But also discounted in price. The yardage we got was near immaculate, actually, but did average 1.4 oz. For this project 10 yards was enough with a little to spare. Totally pleased with the service and quality from Outdoor Wilderness Fabrics.

Cost of fabric and sundries was $90 or so. We just today ordered an Easton .625 pole for $25 more.

Most of you aspiring megamid-MYOGs probably know the importance of the socalled catenary curve. Bjorn calculated his based on a 2" middle 'sag' and had me cut a plywood template on the bandsaw.

Lots of seaming on a mid project. Our sewing machine is a Pfaff 130 from a long time ago. The 130 is a legendary high quality machine capable of beautiful stitching and burly enough to sew eight layers of sailcloth. But it is hand crank only. All the long seams are flat-felled. Some stress points are bartacked or zig-zag'ed.

Cool. I'd like to make a sil-nylon bag for my tripod... thanks for the source info. Excellent work.
 
very cool. I've had my eye on one just like it.
 
Lot of work, looks like they are doing a good job. What is the projected weight when done with pole, stakes, skirting. Pretty large footprint...... Doesn't appear to be saving a lot of weight though .....
 
Very cool. I'd love a mid someday. I love DIY projects, I'm just running out of time for them these days. Very cool to see a kid building hsi own gear.
