What hiking shoes with a very sturdy rubber sole do you all use?
I'm looking for ideas for shoes so I can order quite a few pairs.
I need to replace my shoes once or twice a month due to the intense nature of hiking out to the lava flow each day and am looking for a hiking shoe with a really good rubber and some cushion.

I used to hike in my Salomon trailrunners all the time, but because they are pricey I simply can't buy a new pair for $100+ each month.
I tried some cheaper shoes, but they lacked the cushion and my feet were so sore all the time.

My shoes usually look like this or worse after about three weeks

regular running shoes do not work, they melt right away :)

Yvonne if you are destroying a pair of shoes every two months hiking on sharp wicked lava rock instead of buying new shoes that are on sale why not buy used tennis from second hand stores. I bet you could find tennis even hiking shoes that are in decent enough condition to hike 2 or 3 times then toss for cheaper than buying new on sale shoes.

There is no rubber sole that will hold up to that lava.

 those are expensive! Says the women who bough 45 North boots. LOL

Wonder how long the Airpower would hold up to the lava. Yvonne maybe you can be come a tester for these guys. Tell them you will take their boots to the harshest conditions and report back. :giggle:

Chere, the second picture is or was a pair of tennis shoes.
They are definitely a no go.

I guess no shoe will hold long against the heat, but I need to find a pair of hiking shoes that are nice to walk in. The Salomon shoes at least last a while, I wish they would be on sale more often.
I haven't tried any Merell shoes yet and will test a pair of The Northface shoes pretty soon.

I know tennis won't hold up. Just suggesting a $5-10 pair from local desert industries would last maybe 3 hikes. Before needing the next pair. Trashing trash shoes, instead of new ones.

But if you want a good recommend on good hiking shoes try a pair of Salewa's. I have used the same pair for last 4 years on flat pedals with killer pegs that usually rip up 5'10s pretty quick. The Salewa's soles seem to hold up better.
