We arrived on Friday morning from Salt Lake City and unfortunately it was too cold to camp. Due to dead season, there was no one in Torrey town but luckily we found a motel that was open. Keep in mind businesses are closed for the season. Luckily I was prepared and I bought food with me. The weather was cold but as soon as you start to hike, it warms up. There was snow but it was in some small spots. I am hoping to go back to Capital Reef soon and finish up Navajo and Sulphur Creek hike. Who wants to come with me?

Welcome to BCP! Great first post! I recommend checking out the Escalante area just to the south. Very much like Capitol Reef but much more dog-friendly.

I 'inserted' all of your images into the post. You did 99% of the process so they were attached, but then so they show up full size, you just hit that 'Insert Full Images' button. ;)

Thank you Vegan.Hiker. The trip was a blast. No crowds hovering the trails. I have to say I miss New York especially Cinnamon Snail truck but I love Utah even more for hiking. I been living here for over a year.

My jealousy is off the charts. Not just because you get to hike in Utah day in, day out, but because I follow the Cinnamon Snail on Twitter and have yet to actually come across it.

Sad. You need to make a trip out to Brooklyn for a Vegan Pop-Up shop which is once a month. Cinnamon Snail tend to park their truck outside the bar. http://veganshopup.wordpress.com/ The Pop-Up shop tend to take place at the Vegan Bar called Pine Box Rock Shop which they are known for amazing Vegan Bloody Marys.

Aww, c'mon. It's never too cold to camp in CRNP.

Awesome thanks for the tip. I've eaten at the vegan place MOB Burger on Atlantic Ave in that area a few times but never knew about the market you mentioned. Definitely going to check it out. So I'm guessing your vegan? If so, it'll be nice to have a fellow hiker on here to discuss l that fun vegan hiking stuff like shoe glues, non wool socks, yada yada. Not sure what part of Utah you're from but when I was out there I found a vegan diner in SLC called the vertical diner. Nice place but don't bring your nyc vegan food expectations with you. Also sorry for totally derailing your trip report.

No worries! I been to MOB but it was a bit too pricey for me. Definitely a cute place. You should also check out V-Spot in Park Slope-they have the best vegan empanadas I ever ate. I used to be vegan but now I am vegetarian again.

I been to Vertical Diner and if you are back in SLC then you need to check out Sages Cafe, Omar Rawtopia and OhMai (not a 100% vegan place but they makes the best 100% vegan pha soup and vegan sandwiches.

Great pics! I really love Capitol Reef, even if i've not had the chance to explore as much of the Southern end as i'd like. All the more reason to go back!

It was such a great trip and it was fun to practice being a photographer. We were amazed at how nice the weather was. Definitely going to spend more time in southern Utah during the winter.

I agree! Can't wait to go back to Southern Utah.

Looks awesome, people keep telling me that visiting Southern Utah in the winder is awesome. Might need to wait on the Sulphur Creek, I was there in early April a few years back and the Ranger told us that we would need an ice ax to get up the falls becasue everything was still frozen, not sure how true it was but we saw people with ice climbing shoes gearing up, they looked a lot more experienced than we did!

Am flying into salt lake for a trip to the Tetons next fall. Chose SLC so I could see some of the country also. You gave a good idea on where to start.
