Hello everyone. I am a flatlander the grew up camping and climbing while living in Boulder CO. Through the years I found myself in Tennessee and now Nebraska. I have changed the way I enjoy the outdoors over the years. Car camping the state parks has been a common way to spend the weekends over the years. I even spent several years enjoying the pre 1840 mountain man rendezvous encampments through the central and high plains states. Lately I have been reportedly sited in a...........camper! {will that get me black listed?} Last spring I sat and listened to a co-worker describe his trip into the Boundary Waters area and I found my mind wandering. What happened to the adventurous spirit that was constantly needing to get out into the mountains with little on my back. I began thinking back to a backpacking trip I was on with an older friend in 1986 to the Winds. After a few weeks of dreaming, I decided enough was enough. I began planning a trip back to the winds. Being 30 years ago, the only name I remembered of the area was Haystack mountain. I also remember hiking to a peak and looking down over an edge of a tremendously high point(East Temple Peak). That,s where you all come in. I started my research and stumbled across a trip report to the area from Nick......and now it's ON. I have broke out some of the old gear from yesteryear and have spent countless hours planning my trip back to the Winds this coming August. I thought it was time to come out of the darkness and join up. Thank you all for the inspiring and informative posts and trip reports. I look forward to posting my own trip report one day.
