Newbie to this site but have many years of outdoor/backpacking trips. Was referred here from White Blaze site. I am planning my first backpacking trip west of the Mississippi this summer. I want to avoid national parks/crowds/lotteries/permits. I have ordered some maps and doing my general research at this time. This place looks like a great resource!

Welcome from KY, where are you in TN?

Narrow down your area a little bit and you will definitely find help/suggestions from someone here. The Uinitas might be a good starting place for you to consider.

After living most of my life in the central part of the state (and closer to the mountains), I have moved to the western part. It is flat! Now it takes a bit of a drive to get to a good spot and sadly, the impromptu 1 or 2 night trips may be a thing of the past. As far as where i want to hike this summer, I am looking - at these 3 wilderness areas - the Bob Marshall complex, Anaconda Pintler and the Gros Ventre. Still doing the research on logistics and not yet to the point of asking specific questions. I have been using this site in my planning to date and am glad I was referred here.
