Hello all!

New member from Salt Lake City, so glad I found this forum! Looking at trying out backpacking in the Uintas with my kids (15, 13, 7). Probably take them out one at a time for some one-on-one bonding time.

So many hikes available here in Utah, sad it's taken me so long to become interested in it! But better late than never.

Trying to stay in a budget, we have some Marmot Edge backpacks but I'm thinking these are too small for what we'd like to do. Any ideas on backpacks, 2 man tents?

Thanks again for all of the help and sharing of knowledge!

well since you posted the question here.. :)

What is the most important factor in your decision - weight or price? The REI tents are a great value - the Passage 2 weighs almost 5 lbs but cost $160, the REI Quarter Dome 2 weighs 3 lbs, but cost $300. You could always shop the used gear sales as well to get even better deals.

And for the pack, did you mean the Marmot Ledge? Again, this all depends on how many days you plan on going out, and what you want to pack. If you are going with a couple of your kids, I am assuming you would be carrying the bulk of the equipment?
