Hiiii all!

Noob here. I just moved to escalante and work at the Escalante Mercantile, which is a natural food store. If you are exploring the area of Escalante or driving through, this store is a great resource for fresh healthy food. We sell organic produce, fresh made salads, breads, cookies, coffee, sandwiches, backpacking food, bars, etc. Google us for more information. Or come say hi to me! I work most mornings and am looking for hiking/climbing partners in the afternoon.

Anyways, I just moved here a week ago so if anyone has any hiking recommendations for me and my pup, please let me know. hi! photo(1).JPG

that's awesome that we finally have someone from escalante! Anything really down the hole in the rock road is doable. There's also the Hells Backbone road which gets you into the death hollow area, then theres capitol reef.... In other words, there's a lot, enjoy living there and have fun on your adventures!

Great to see new local businesses in Escalante. That place sure has changed a lot since I went on my first backpacking trip down the Escalante River in 2004. Welcome to BCP!

Thanks for the welcome guys! My first backpacking trip in escalante was two years ago to the day down harris to neon and out. I loved it so much that I moved here. Ha.

Escalante is a pretty special place. Welcome to BCP! Where did you move from?

Fantastic! You are in a place that has world class adventures way to numerous to mention. I bet that new natural foods store is going to get a lot of business too. I'd load up supplies there when needed.

I'll suggest one big adventure for you, a kind of knight's errand...go forth and find the mystery to old Everett Ruess. On your journey you shall see wondrous things...

I just started reading Finding Everett Reuss. Good book so far...

Meet up with anyone from the crew at Hell's Backbone grill. I have a few friends there that hike most days.

That is a very good book. I read that years ago. Everett did some serious remote travel and long explorations, then just up and vanished with the wind. David Roberts made a compelling book with that subject.

I particularly liked the fact that Roberts took the time to help us get to know Everett. It's not just "dude disappears into the wilderness and here's everyone's theories". His disappearance is put in context of his life and his journeys.

@Sienna Hiebert I stopped by your place of work last Monday to grab some coffee, what an awesome little place! Keep us updated on your adventures.

The store has been around for a few years I think- we have stopped in a couple of times for resupply on fall desert trips, and were pleasantly surprised to find fresh, and even local produce. A very welcome addition to Escalante! If I recall from talking to the woman there (owner?) last October- they are closed over the winter.

We enjoyed our stop at the Mercantile last year. We will be in Escalante next week Monday/Tuesday so maybe we will run in to you!
