Has Anyone Else Lost the REI Mojo?

I guess I am the only one keeping REI in business anymore then. :D

My second and third tents were REI tents: The Half Dome (2 person) and the SoloLight (1 person)

After having kids, I purchased the REI Camp Hut 4

Once my kids got older and bigger, the Camp Hut didn't cut it anymore, so I picked up a Base Camp 6, which did the trick.

Also, as my kids grew, the Half Dome became to cramped to fit two comfortably, so I picked up the REI TAJ 3.

I wasn't really satisfied with the RAJ 3, so I picked up a Half Dome Three Plus

So when three of us went on a backpacking trip, I picked up the Half Dome 4 Plus that fits three comfortably.

I've picked up a few other REI tents along the way when they were on sale and I had dividend money to burn.

And as I've grown older, I switched back to some one man tents from REI: The Passage 1, Quarter Dome 1, and the Quarter Dome 1 SL.

I also have an assortment of REI brand shirts and Nalgene bottles that I've collected over the years.

All that being said, I now mostly get socks, freeze dried meals and fuel bottles for myself and @TractorDoc these days. And I still enjoy walking through the store when I'm in the neighborhood.
Loved seeing all the tents! Fantastic comment.

@scatman could outfit a Tibetan army.

Scatty, in the photo of you wearing the green hat and kilt your pack looks like a bagpipe. I never thought about this much, but you could really amp up the effect if you started carrying one. Think of the possibilities!

Would like to see the same breakdown with your camera collection.

If that's the case, then the Tibetan army must not be very big.

It does kind of look like bagpipes if you look really quickly. How heavy are bagpipes?

Not sure how to display all my cameras. Any thoughts? Maybe by product line? I've still got about 1/3 of them to organize. :(

I did forget to include my three REI sleeping bags. I don't remember their names, and I can't get downstairs yet to see what they are called, but I've got a 20 degree synthetic bag that I bought when I got the first half dome. It's been a great bag over the years. My second bag is a thirty degree synthetic bag that I got three years ago and have used it on my July and some of my August hikes. I like it. My last bag I got on sale two years ago. It was ridiculously marked down and is a twenty degree synthetic bag, and I used it once on an August trip, and there is no way it is a twenty degree bag. My thirty degree bag is warmer than it. Maybe that is why it was discounted so much. It will probably go to charity at some point.

Thanks Jackson. Hate to say this, but I've also got an Arete 3, and a Camp Hut 2 that I have never opened or used, they are just stored away for future use I guess.

Here's another shot of the Half Dome that you might remember. :)

Great trip, fond memories! Was looking for it in the first comment, glad to see it!

I've just about forgotten what snow looks like this season.

Not much snow here either though the rain we got the other day brought some snow to the higher elevations in the mountains.

You could post photos you've taken with each one and we could guess what kind of camera and lens. That might keep minds like mine entertained for a few years.

More like a few decades. :D

Okay, what camera took this shot? Hint - It's a point and shoot. :)

Good guess, but nope. It was a Canon PowerShot G16. :)
That's what I meant. They're messing with the fiber optics cable around here and things are kind of garbled. But a key question is, how many cameras are in your collection? Have you ever counted them? Maybe we should start there.

They definitely have a good solid selection of gear and tents for every kind of camping. But I’m not needing any new gear and am happy with what I’ve sorted out over the decades. I’m burning butane for most of our Sonoran desert adventures and just have that delivered to my door. It is very inexpensive compared to isopro fuel and burns just fine same at temperatures at and above 40°F with identical boiling performance. I really don’t need much anymore except fuel and shoes, both of which I can find online at the getting place.

The one item I will not live without is the REI Flash 18. That is used multiple times a week for our local canyon forays. Though we have a local REI I just order one if need be and have it delivered.

The official count is 149, but there are probably 10-15(?) that I have not recorded into my spreadsheet yet, so that count will go up.

Wow, Scatman. Do they have a greeter and escort for you when you get to REI?

I realized the other night that I have an entire bedroom loaded with ultralight camping stuff. There are sleeping bags and tents and hammocks and water filters and ... . I enjoy going to REI (I now live within an hour and a half from one!), but I enjoy just going to that bedroom because all the things are in colors I like.
