Hi all, Planning a spring 2022 trip. Is end of April too early to get into Hammond Canyon, UT for a short 2-3 day backpack? Any insights are much appreciated! Thanks, Carrie

This road about 1/2 m before even getting to Bears Ears, mid May. Not saying every year is like this...could be more could be less. Farther up the road goes around the north side of th Bears Ears and it drifts in about 8 ft deep, as it was that year....

You don't need to drive up through the Bears Ears to get into Hammond Canyon. You can start closer to the bottom.

Yeah you can go in by arch cyn.. but most start at the head of Hammond. And the other road is still +8000 ft

The Cream Pots TH is lower than 7,000 ft. which makes it a much better option early in the season. It isn't near Arch Canyon. It does require HC4WD to get there. It can still be problematical driving there since there are creek crossings that can be pretty deep.

My picture is about 1/2 m below the top.... Closer to 7k feet and in May. Need to watch weather and have backup plan because more than likely it's not easily accessible. But whatever.......

If you are a very experienced adventurer, go for it! I should still gain some experience, and maybe in 2023, I will venture. But a friend of mine was there last year when I was on vacation in Costa Rica. And he says it was pretty problematic driving. There were creek crossings and deep ones. He told me about this dangerous adventure while telling him how I drank my morning coffee at JungleVistaHotel.com as I watched the monkeys.

Hi Bob...hikeman here again. Seems like we have similar likes when it comes to hiking and adventures. Besides asking for your assistance to access GG via Water Canyon, I would like to view the Three Fingers Ruins in Hammond Canyon. I was going to access Hammond canyon located by Little Notch but am considering using Cream Pots trail to the Hammond trail to the ruins. It appears the length to the ruins via the Cream Pots trail is shorter and not as steep. I am going to Utah the first week of June-2022. Do you have an idea of how far the ruins are by taking the Cream Pots trail as compared to the Hammond TH by Little Notch? I have a 2017 Tacoma Off Road. Can my vehicle handle the road to the Cream Pots trailhead?

Thanks for any assistance you can pass on to me. Also, I am awaiting your reply to a message I sent to you a few days ago regarding the trail into GG via Water Canyon. I sure would appreciate your comments. Thank you again.

Have not been in Hammond canyon. See your DM....
