Half Dome rescue

Oh my - what a story. That couple is very fortunate there were brave, strong people nearby to rescue them without waiting a long time for SAR. On our very first backpacking trip in 2013 (guided) we got to the cables on the morning of our final day. I was tired and didn't feel strong, so even though I'm not afraid of heights I chose not to go up. My husband (who used to be afraid of heights but no longer is) and our two teenage sons went and loved it. I stayed at the bottom and took pictures, feeling a little bummed but knew I had made the right choice that day. I do not want to imagine what it would have been like to experience a fall or to watch someone else fall.
