Yesterday was my 29th wedding anniversary, and to celebrate Sheila and I managed an anniversary hike to the top of Grandeur Peak. At 8299 feet in elevation, Grandeur would be the highest that I have hiked since my knee surgery last October and I was interested to see how the knee would hold up on this one.
Wildflowers haven't been that spectacular this year, due to the record warm winter we had here in Salt Lake, but there were some along the trail that kept me busy taking pictures all the way up.

Overview map

Only five cars at the trailhead at 6:30 am

Couple of waterfalls on Church Fork

Choke cherry was plentiful along the trail

My hiking partner for the day, and for the last 29 years.

Trail intersection

One of the cameras that I took on this hike, the Canon PowerShot S50. I am slowly moving up the S series.

These stairs are starting to remind me of the old ones on Mount Olympus

Mount Olympus comes into view

Phacelia

Most of the mules' ears were pretty ragged looking

Vetch

Western wallflower

Yarrow

Starwort

Lewis flax

Hound's tongue

Triangle Peak along with Mount Olympus to the west

Wasatch beardtongue

Miners lettuce

View down Church Fork

On the last switchback

Some white stickseed

Larkspur

Mountain dandelion

View back to Church Fork Peak

Reminder of last fall

Woodland star

More larkspur

Just left of center is Perkin's Peak on Parleys Ridge, where we were two weeks ago

Ballhead waterleaf trying to hide from me

If you squint, you just might be able to see the yurt of Church Fork Peak

Western stoneseed

A caterpillars' nest with no caterpillars at home

Oregon grape

Buscuitroot

Sheila, rounding to the west side of Grandeur

Me, pondering if Olympus is still in my wheelhouse

This lady had had enough

A look up Millcreek Canyon from the summit of Grandeur

View to the north from the summit of Grandeur

View along the Millcreek Ridge towards Church Fork Peak with Mount Aire beyond

My other camera for the hike, a Canon EOS 5D Mark III

There's a lizard if you can find it

Church Fork Peak to Mount Olympus

Nearly a 360 degree view from the Grandeur summit

Heading back down

A Utah violet

A bee on some balsamroot

Yellow salsify

Hookers onion

Makes my knees hurt just watching this

Cascades on Church Fork

Lots of vehicles at the trailhead now.
It was then on to Park City for a well deserved meal.

The moose is loose!

A magpie outside our restaurant

Some prime rib and a baked potato

And finished the night off with some mud pie. Yum!
The End.
