Hello.
Looking for suggestions on four to five continuous nights in the backcountry. Thinking about the Throfoare area but I am concerned about mosquitos and fording the Yellowstone. I was thinking to hire a boat to the east arm of the lake so that we can shave off much of 9 mile- I've done it before and now it is burned out from what I understand.
I am also thinking about some modification of these posts I'm seeing around here about trips in the Teton/Shoshone area, starting off from Brooks lake or Trupin Meadows. What about conditions up high around this time?
Heading north of Hell Roaring into the Absorokas seems like an option, but the pictures I've seen from this area haven't been spectacular- although many people seem to love it.
If we had more time, a Mt Sheridan peak to Thorofare from the south end of the lake and back out across Specimine Ridge seems cool- but how is the scenery there? The thing I remember most from my last trip in that area was burned out areas and endless Chicken Ridge.
About 20 years ago I did 9 Mile and out Heart Lake- which obviously included a ford of of the Yellowstone but that was near the end of summer. It is intimidating regardless. I've also done Lamar Valley to Hoodoo Basin out and back. Numerous trips around Hell Roaring and Bull Mountain and to Gardner. Day hiked across Hayden Valley to Nez Perce area. Overnights to Union Falls. Some of the peaks in the NW from 191. Last year we were back and did Heart Lake. So, I've seen many areas of the park. My trouble is with knowing the expected conditions of certain areas.
Anyways, I know this is a meandering post. I've looked at countless trip reports and know this question has been asked before. I suppose I'm just fishing for anythign.
Thank you!
