Just wondering if anyone has some tips on how best to pack & organize food for long distance backpacking trips, specifically week long+ kind of trips.

Big zip locks with one thing in each or break it out so you have a bit of everything in one big zip-lock so you know roughly how much you should be eating or need to eat to stay on track?

i carry one stuff sack of breakfast stuff (coffee and breakfast bars) for the whole trip. and then one bag with all the dinner stuff (freezer bag stuff).

and then i separate every day's snacks and lunch stuff into separate bags - every morning i pack up the gear, leave out just the snack/lunch bag for the day, and use that to keep trash throughout the day.

so for this trip i will have 1 gallon ziploc for dinner, 1 gallon ziploc for breakfast, and 6 separate gallon ziplocks for each respective day's lunch and snacks. if i'm in bear country, i bring one large silnylon sack to tree it with.

Perfect. That's kind of what I'd settled on. Since I'm on the no-stove plan, it's a bit harder to define what exactly is dinner, breakfast, lunch etc. so I was having a really hard time figuring how I was going to ration properly. I busted everything out into day bags with the first and last day and some misc junk in one bag. I'll eat my breakfast out of it in the AM and then have that much food for the rest of the day. I usually eat some of my dinner for lunch and some of my lunch for dinner to mix things up. This should work great.

oh yeah, i forgot you are on the no stove plan still. nice! be interested to see what your menu is like.

Typical day:

Cold coffee
4 Lara bars
1 bag dried mango (4 oz)
1 bag beef jerky (6 oz)
1 bag other meat (5 oz)
1 small bag raisin-date-nut trail mix

I also have a few other items I will be mixing in throughout like a bag of freeze dried fruits, some chocolate, and a couple gatorade mixes as treats.
