I encountered an unexpected flash flood in lower Slickhorn this Sat. As of Thursday, the forecast was 30% chance of rain in the afternoon, with up to a few mm of rain. I had altered my plans from GSENM to BENM to stay out of the higher risk slots, with a higher likelihood of rain predicted in East GSENM. It started raining lightly late morning with a period of heavier rain for ~30 min. As I was walking along the drainage somewhere around 6th Fork I heard what sounded like a waterfall, then saw a tongue of silty water coming down. The water was up to thigh deep in spots. I ended up exiting early at Third Fork to avoid being in the "funnel" just in case it rained more.

I was in Escalante and turned from an exposed slickrock hike due to lightning risk. The storms were mainly forecast for the afternoon, but clouds started to build shortly after sunrise. Saw a cloud-to-ground strike near Navajo Mtn around 8:30am, whereupon we decided to retreat and hike something a bit more sheltered.

Great photos. Glad you are safe and sound.
