Do you use Spot Connect or DeLorme InReach?

I'm giving consideration to purchasing one of these beacons. I would like to know your thoughts about one or both.

I used to have the original Spot (not the Connect), but I now use the inReach.

Recently, we talked a lot about the two in these posts.

Personally, I love the inReach because of its two-way messaging, the speed with which it sends messages, and its ability to work both with my iPhone and in standalone mode.

Nick was turned off by its size and the web page interface...all legitimate gripes. It is bigger and clunkier than the Spot. The web site is currently being improved.

The inReach plans are also more expensive, and the hardware is more expensive.

But I still like it better.

I used the Spot for two years and now the InReach for a month and a half. The InReach certainly has its shortfalls but their new beta site fixes many of them. Bottom line, if you get out a lot and/or have a lot of money. The InReach is the way to go. If not, the Spot.

My wife got a bit freaked out from my last trip (got a little lost, but found our way). I came in here to ask this same question. I'm glad I checked before I started typing.

As a non-cellphone user, I think the spot will work for me.

Spot if you dont need all the extras and just want to let someone know where your at and yes the price and price of service going forward will factor into your purchase.

Personally I use the SPOT & PN-60W, since two years as my backup.
For 3 to 4 weeks of use in the year, it's expensive.
Whatever - safety first!
The new inReach should be much better - it's a 2-way unit.
