Death Hollow/Bowington Road

In Steve Allen's Canyoneering 3 book, he mentions a route on the north side of the Escalante heading back up to the bench, the old Bowington Road. Anyone hiked this? I'd like to do a loop from the Boulder airstrip into DH, down to the river and back up to the Slickrock Saddle Bench to the car.

I've never hiked it, but I've read about it too. Sounds neat. Tell us how it goes.

Yeah pretty much a Google fail. Found one map that shows where to access the bench from the river, and then its just winging it back to the BMT. I'll trip report the heck out of it.

Where exactly is that access?

Wild. That's an interesting route they took to get just a little further down the Escalante the same day. I climbed up to the rim on the east side of Sand Creek and spent a night up there once. It seemed possible to keep going up canyon that way, but I didn't really check. The view was nice.

One more thing. If you find yourself at the mouth of Sand Creek. Do not miss this awesome spring. Right along the stream near the mouth. Lots of flow, no filter needed.
