Taking the kids on another Coyote Gulch trip and I want to make sure
I don't miss the pit toilet near the Big Spring Alcove. Does anyone have
the coordinates of its location?

Thanks

you also need to have these WAG bags and have to carry out your solid human waste products. So get some poop bags at some of the outdoor stores. The one remaining self-composting toilet near the spring is still open.
I went in 2014, so I don't have GPS, it's too long ago. I'm pretty sure, someone else here does

It was closed (and locked) in May of 2018. I got the impression that this was a permanent change -- but that may not be the case. Also -- there is/was a sign on the bank to make it hard to miss (just down and across from the alcove.)

EDIT: haha -- that photo has coords embedded:

I just took this off the park's website...

"The pit toilets by Jacob Hamblin Arch have been closed. The composting toilet by Big Spring Alcove is currently open. Please do not leave trash at this facility."

Glad I've been lucky enough to have been around long enough to go to the cool places without the I flux of people that is occurring. These places will never be the same.

We've heard the same thing over and over from you again on this forum....how many more times do we need to hear how lucky you were to be born in the right decade? Seriously, it helps no one.

So what, I stated like it was ..... And more people visiting ruin things. Since we are in personal attack mode I'd say we hear the sane things from you and others...... Geez. Don't read it if you don't like it.... better yet ignore it...... But some can't they have to fire off. See ya....

Really, what's the point in even going outside anymore?
That's true ... That's why I stay away from the regular places..... Also why I've quit posting trips... Find then yourself.

It's a free world, @Bob can post what he wants. It's not up to you to say his post does not help anyone. How do you know? Are you the arbiter of what is relevant for this site? The "back in the day" can sometimes get old I know. But learning from the past helps us to not make the same mistakes now. At least it helps me. Bob and I (and others on this site) are lucky to have visited these places when we did. Sharing these experiences might provide some insight to others. As you get older @IntrepidXJ, you might learn to appreciate other peoples experiences.

@Jammer That's awesome! Thanks for making the extra effort.

Good to know about the sign on the bank too. I don't remember
seeing it in 2014 when I was there last.

@DrNed , perhaps this isn't the case anymore, but when we were there in 2017, the BLM station in Escalante provided WAG bags to us when we got our overnight permit.

I’ll call and find out. Thanks!
