Corona Arch Rope Swing

I will be rapping off that after my wife runs the half in Moab this spring... not sure about the swinging..

Saw this. Pretty crazy. I don't believe it's in a NP so even if they had policies against it it wouldn't apply. The guy that made the video has some pretty sweet videos in his channel. There's one called "Human Sling Shot Slip and Slide - Vooray" that looks like fun.

Dean Potter free climbs Delicate and people go apes hit.... These guys beat up corona and its cool. ;)

This is Corona Arch, off the road that leads to Potash. Not sure if it's on BLM land or not, but it's definitely not NPS. Yeah, if they would have tried this on Delicate Arch or Rainbow Bridge, there'd be a knock on their door by an NPS investigator.

Read about what happened to photographer Michael Fatali when he tried to set fire to Delicate Arch some years ago... http://photo.net/nature-photography-forum/001i0p
His little stunt got him banned from the national parks for a while and set him back over $10,000.

I have to say with all of the attention it is getting that arch I really hope it doesn't cause it to get closed down or something like that to "protect" people from themselves..

Interesting dialogue from Petzl, calling them out on the safety issues on their Facebook page today.

http://www.facebook.com/Petzl

While I can see where Petzl is coming from my opinion is that if people want to do something like this for an adrenaline rush then that is there choice/risk. There are dangers in everything. This will be a never ending arguement. Now the matter of destroying or perminantly marking a natrual structure...that's something I'm not ok with.

"I think we leave fewer rope grooves than the rappellers"

So one of them admits on that site how they damaged the Arch and created new rope groves. awesome.....
I would hope they left "fewer ropes grooves" than the "rappellers" that have been doing this for the 50+ years.

I see another "127 hrs" effect in the future for this arch...sadly...

um yeah, I get so many hits on my flickr account for "the blue pools in 127 hours"
its pretty damn funny

I have to say with all of the attention it is getting that arch I really hope it doesn't cause it to get closed down or something like that to "protect" people from themselves..

It will be nutty puttied before you know it.....

unsafe? yes. incredibly epic? of course

I was about to post this, so glad I caught it. It's amazing to watch, but like others have said, incredibly stupid to see the damage that was likely done to the arch.

I just keep envisioning the "splat" when something goes wrong...........
