I live a few minutes away from the Colorado National Monument and visit it regularly...usually just to hike and explore. For some reason I have never spent much time taking photos in the park, so that's something I am working on doing now.

I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread here where I can continue to add new photos I take there.

CC is welcomed. Thanks!

I'll start with a few taken over this weekend.

That Independence Monument is awesome. What exactly is the Colorado National Monument? Just a little thing or does it have backpacking type destinations in it?

It's not very large. You could probably stretch a few of the longer canyons into a short overnighter backpack trip if you wanted to, but they are all easily hiked in a few hours.

Just west of the Colorado National Monument is the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area and Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness which extend to the Utah Border. This area is more remote and would be a great destination for backpacking. It's actually one of the areas I plan to go on a few short trips to get started backpacking this year since it's close to home.

The valley was filled with a thick fog this morning, so I skipped a few hours of work and headed up to the Monument to catch the sunrise. Photographing the Monument with fog has been high on my list for a while, and I couldn't have asked for a better morning.
