Went on vacation to Southern California and decided to look for a hike, my wife and I decided to head up the Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu and to the Charmlee Wilderness Park. This was a great hike to escape the madness that is Los Angeles. There were very few people and basically had the trail to ourselves. It wasn't a very long or adventuresome hike, but the views were amazing. And taking a hike in January in shorts, t-shirt and sandals is always a great feeling!

Parking was $4, cash only

Trails were well marked and very easy to follow.

After a bit you get your first view of the coast.

There were several small loops to various areas, and I still need to work on getting my finger out of the photo.

Another shot of the trail and the Pacific Ocean.

By reservoir they mean a small concrete bowl that rarely gets water.

My wife reaching the spot with the best view...it's well worth the trip!

Back to the car...rental car. It was a Fiat 500x and it had a 9-speed automatic transmission. It was a fun little car.

So there you have it. If you find yourself in the Malibu area I highly recommend this hike!

Nice, Parma, Italy :)

The upper reaches of Malibu canyon at the State Park is where they filmed Mash, the Korean war comedy (if you can call any show about war a comedy). It is also very pretty and worth hiking.

I read about that too, and thought it would have been really cool. But my wife not being from the US wouldn't have understood how big of deal MASH was back in the day.
