Car Camping Window Screens

I'm gearing up for a summer of long weekend trips and that often means driving late into the night to get to a trailhead. So I've been sketching out plans to build a sleeping platform for the back of my not so flat Tuscon and need a solution to opening windows for ventilation while keeping flying insects out. I looked around the web and these 3 looked like the most promising options. Does anyone have experience and recommendations with any of these products?

The third option looks like overkill but it's also the only one that would work in the rain.

All suggestions appreciated.

I've been using a pair of Skeeter Beaters since last summer after I had an incident in which a lot of insects got inside my Jeep. I've been very happy with them. Quick and easy to put up and take down and they have a nice little storage pouch to keep them in which fits nicely in the glovebox or the pockets on the back of the front seats. The nice thing about the Wrangler, is that the same pair works on either the front or the back windows. Highly recommended for anyone who ends up sleeping in their vehicle on occasion!

My wife made something that looks like the Skeeter Beater a few years back for a road trip to the Northwest Territories. Worked like a charm. Materials probably cost about 10 bucks and required 30 minutes to make.

Thanks Randy, that’s the exact kind of testimony I was looking for. I was leaning towards the skeeter beaters since they are the only ones that are vehicle specific, so I assume they would fit the best. With your endorsement, I’m going to go ahead and order a pair. Thanks.

I just got some screen at the hardware store and some magnets, and made my own for under $10. Works great. The secret is to put them over the door frame, so you can open and close the windows without messing up the screen. You make a double fold to do it, in other words, just fold it over the actual door frame, put magnets around the bottom on both inside and outside, and close the door. You can open the window and close it at will without touching the screen.
