Canyonlands: Chesler Park, Virginia Park ???

Hi,

I am doing some planning on Google Earth in the area around Chesler Park in Canyonlands and I noticed another "park" area called Virginia Park. Looks like if I go to Chesler Park and then go into the Joint Trail, I get to Chesler Canyon. If I go left I eventually make it to Devils Lane, but if I go right into Chesler Canyon I can see a path (not sure if this is still the 4WD road or not) that takes me to Virginia Park. What I cant see on Google Earth is if there is an entrance to Virginia Park of not. I see a side canyon from Chesler Canyon that looks like it goes into it, but I am not sure if its a dead end of the proper way to get Virginia Park.

Anyone familiar with the area ? I want to hike past Chesler Park and now instead of going towards Devils Lane, going towards Virginia Park looks appealing. I see lots of side trips in there.

Virginia park is closed to entry and has been for quite a while (Just like Jasper Canyon is in The Maze).

Virginia Park (Needles District). The grasslands of Virginia Park (approximately 203 acres) will be closed to all non-scientific entry. Views into Virginia Park will still be possible from rock formations around the grasslands. At least once a year the NPS will conduct a guided tour of Virginia Park for all interested members of the public. Wash bottoms and rock will be used as travel routes.

Last time I was there, there was indeed a guided tour signup sheet at the ranger station. I signed up but they never contacted me. I believe the overlook is accessible from Elephant Canyon but I've not tried it.

At the rate politics are moving, it shouldn't be long now before Virginia Park is packed full of cattle and drill pads.

i hope that the new interior secretary grows some b*lls and acts like the outdoors man that he claims to be. But what burns me is the regular people that craps all over historic sites. I have seen lost of beautiful Indian rock art posts on IG and other sites and always, always the person that posts the picture will refuse to divulge the location due to idiots that will go and screw with it. That is my real issue these days. I am actually taking a trip to Canyonlands in a few weeks to find some indian art locations that are known (like 13 faces and All American Man in the Horse Canyon and Salt Creek canyon area), but I know there are LOTS more that I would love to see, but I wont know where they are.

It's not just Utah. Some criminals toppled what was left of the mining buildings at Terlingua, TX.
