I've heard there is an event in Moab next weekend (Easter Jeep Safari?) that might draw a lot of people. Anyone have any guesses as to what the crowding situation will be like in the surrounding campgrounds? I plan to arrive on Thursday, 3/17 to do some car camping with the wife and kids and I'm hoping to secure a BLM spot along the river or at Sand Flats. Just wondering if I can expect to find a spot or if it will be full by then.

I know the Jeep safari starts on Sunday the 20th. You might be ok.

It is busy! Good luck. We went last year for spring break and only found a campground because my friend went down early and he let us stay in his spot.

Campgrounds that could be reserved sold out January 20 2016 this year for Jeep Safari, March 18-27.
Extra Bureau of Land Management law enforcement have been hired to prevent visitors from bushwhacking new campsites, as it is going to be BUSY< BUSY>BUSY. For that week, State Lands and Trust will open the Old Airport for camping. Must have a portable toilet for any backcountry camping around Moab. There is a short list of rooms available https://moabutah.wordpress.com/2016/03/14/jeep-safari-march-18-27-2016-rooms-available/

I was in Moab this past weekend. I couldn't wait to get out of there, I slept in a rest area.

I drove through yesterday on my way home from the Needes and stopped at Pasta Jays for lunch. I was actually surprised that it wasn't very busy in town as it can be this time of the year.

I stayed at Willow Springs Friday and we got the last site that was accessible to us (2WD car) at about 5:30 p.m. The city was fairly busy around then, but not terrible. No idea what it was like later though. It seems if you get there early, you'll be fine.
