Do we have a dedicated thread yet? These look like a ton of fun. Endless possibilities. Although, I see the downsides as well.

There are a few discussions on this......I am not getting into it, as my view on them is posted somewhere, and its not good.
See the post about drone crashing into Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone in August .......

I have a friend who's looking into getting a beginner camera drone. Has anyone here purchased a basic beginner drone that they can recommend? Some things he's looking for...or wondering about...

- less than $300
- best video/picture quality in the price range
- is FPV (First Person View) worth the extra cost?
- dedicated controller vs. tablet/cell phone controller?

I know these drones are sort of a taboo subject amongst us backcountryists so it might be worth noting that he doesn't plan on using the drone in the backcountry when he knows others are nearby. He said he'd be bugged if he was wanting to enjoy serenity and the outdoors and someone else had a drone buzzing around.

My buddy ended up getting a $200 Husban that shoots 720p (can't remember the exact model). He's excited to try it out this weekend on a winter hike we're doing (isolated area).

haha ...... I love it..... only thing better would be if the antelope stomped it to pieces in the video footage.....
