There was a recent post about the proposed renaming of the Burr Trail. I was sad to see that a totally reasonable and highly relevant post went a bit sideways and was ultimately removed at the OP's request. While I did think the conversation had taken a quick turn in the wrong direction (not OP's fault), I feel strongly that the topic should not have been deleted, so here we are again.

This is not a political thread or topic. I feel strongly that the Burr Trail, one of the most beautiful routes in Utah, should not be re-named at all. And not after any president, and especially not for a president that has no direct ties to the place, and who shows little to no appreciation for wild places. Do they name streets and schools after presidents? Sure, but this isn't a city street or an elementary school needing a name. It has a perfectly good, highly relevant name already that lacks the polarization of adding a politician to it.

I invite all who agree to sign on to the change.org petition, especially if you live in Utah. And if you're a resident of Garfield County, Utah please consider attending the County Commission Meeting on Monday, January 27, 2025 at 1:30 PM in the Garfield County Fair Building, 740 North Main, Panguitch, UT 84759 to let them know how you feel.

Here's the link to the petition:

And if anyone wants to turn this into political bickering, it won't be the thread that gets deleted. Have a nice day!

Given that the proposed re-naming is an overtly political move, it's hard to express an honest opinion without getting political.
I'll add that one of the things that I like about BCP is the generally very low level of "political bickering". I hope it stays that way.
