Sheila and I had a nice day hike to the top of Black Mountain Ridge yesterday. It was nice to get up above the haze in the valley for a bit.
Getting ready at the trailhead. Somebody's shadow got in the way.
Only remaining flower that I saw - maybe some goldenaster
I'd done the Avenues Twin Peaks the day before, so I was covering the same ground at the beginning - the south twin above
Hard to see, but there are a rafter of turkeys on the hillside heading towards the scrub oak
Past their prime fall colors
The South Avenues Twin. We are curving around on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail
A few leaves still with some vivid color to them
And one fallen with frost around its edges
The trail to the top of the ridge
There is your snow @Bob, maybe a 1/4 inch. North Avenues Twin above.
Sheila, making her way to the top of the ridge
Black Mountain ahead. All we have to do is follow the ridge which has a bit of up and down to it.
City Creek Canyon below
One tree with some color left
Looking back on the Avenues Twin Peaks and the hazy Salt Lake Valley
Just working our way along the ridge
Only my second ever Jerusalem cricket encounter
Grandview Peak
Mountain mahogany
Snow covered Francis Peak in the distance
Snowy trail up the first part of Black Mountain
Sheila, working her way uphill. We had a coyote serenading us all the way to the top of the ridge. It was yipping somewhere down
in City Creek Canyon.
View over the top of Rudy's Flat towards Francis Peak
Search and Rescue? Hopefully, they will give me a lift to the top.
Back to some snow
View down City Creek Canyon
That much further to the top
Benchmark where we stopped to eat lunch
A look to the east along the ridge
Antelope Island through the haze, where I hope to be tomorrow.
The workhorses for this hike: an old 2003 Canon Digital Rebel, and a Canon PowerShot G7 which was acting up. I may have
bought a lemon.
Ridge shot
A BCP welcome. Wrist update - I have been put in another custom made brace for at least five more weeks. I will be getting a
steroid shot into the TFCC in two weeks to see if it will help calm down the pain when I twist my wrist. We shall see.
On our way back down
The Dude Benchmark
Stopping to take off our micro-spikes
One of the ups on our way back along the ridge
View down Dry Canyon. That far hill on the right looks like a good slope for one of @Bob 's horse trails.
Looks like one short dog over there.
A Corgi?
Making our way down along the west side of the Twins
Back at the Sube. The hike took us about 5.5 hours roundtrip.
The End.
