We went to Black Magic Canyon in Idaho this last weekend. We were told that Black Magic Canyon wasn't worth going all the way to Idaho, but it was supposed to be great if you were already in the area or passing by. We loved it! It was the highlight of our trip and I thought it was well worth going just for it.

We added Craters of the Moon, ShoShane Falls, & Antelope Island to the trip but Black Magic Canyon was by far the highlight. Goblin Valley in Utah feels like you are hiking on Mars. Black Magic Canyon feels like you are hiking on the moon.

Our pictures didn't do it just but we really loved it!

Been in Idaho almost 2 years now and it is still on my list!! I just need to find the time to go. Great pictures DiscGo

I was told that it wasn't worth making a special trip to Black Magic Canyon, but I can't stress how much fun we had. I would go back just to do it again.

Looks fun. Welcome back Discgo, haven't seen you around for a while. How long is the canyon? How narrow does it get? I've thought Black Magic looks fun, and it's on my list if I ever live closer to Idaho.

@uintahiker
Welcome back Discgo
Thanks.

How long is the canyon?

I don't know. It is too short to shuttle yourself in & out, so you park at the beginning of the canyon after the dam. You hike until you hit a dry waterfall bed and then you return and go back through the canyon. It took us about 2 and a half hours.

How narrow does it get?

Probably 7 or 8 feet at the most narrow sections, but due to rocks in the middle of the canyon there are times where we were crawling in through holes in the rock (with only a couple of feet clearance.

It was an awesome, awesome time. It is totally worth the trip.

That looks really cool and it really does look how I'd imagine the moon looks. Cute kids you got there too.
